What other activities does the Holy Name Society organize or sponsor?

A few of the events that are organized and/or sponsored by The Holy Name Society are as follows:

Annually, we co-sponsor with the Daughters of St. Colette women’s group A Night At The Races in February.  This event raises about $9,000 a year for Catholic education.

Annually, we sponsor and organize a night out at an Akron Aeros baseball game.  All are welcome to join us. For all those under age 18, the Holy Name Society purchases tickets.

Spiritual activities include sponsoring retreats open to all parishioners.  We have had retreats at both the Jesuit Retreat House and the Parish Hall; we are currently planning a retreat for October.  Additionally, we periodically invite guest speakers to our regular meetings to speak to the members on spiritual themes.

The Handyman Crew assists parishioners who are elderly, disabled, or in need with minor home repairs.  We don’t provide parts or materials, but we work for free.

Other services include: organizing casino bus trips, assisting in the Annual Parish Picnic, and volunteering at Parish Rummage Sales.

Men’s social activities include our regular business meetings held on the second Thursday of each month. Each business meeting is limited to 30-45 minutes in length, followed by refreshments, the opportunity to fraternize with other members, and maybe some pinochle.  Bridge players are needed.

How can you join?

Any man who is a registered member of St. Colette or St. Ambrose Parish can join the Holy Name Society by simply paying the $5 dues. All men are welcome at our regular meetings. For more information, contact any officer.  Please join us for some fellowship, fun, food and drink, and maybe some cards.

HOLY NAME PLEDGE

Blessed be God.

Blessed be His Holy Name.

Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man.

Blessed be the Name of Jesus.

I believe O Jesus, that Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

I proclaim my love for the Vicar of Christ on earth.

I believe all the sacred truths, which the Holy Catholic Church believes and teaches.

I promise to give good example by the regular practice of my faith.

In honor of His Divine Name, I pledge myself against perjury, blasphemy, profanity and obscene speech.

I pledge my loyalty to the flag of my country and to the God given principles of freedom and justice for which it stands.

I pledge my support to all lawful authority, both civil and religious.

I dedicate myself to the honor of the Sacred Name of Jesus, and beg that He will keep me faithful to these pledges until death.
